Banksy í New York!

One of the most clandestine graffiti artist in the world, Banksy, has been uncharacteristically exposed in the spotlight with the artist’s directorial debut, “Exit Through The Giftshop“, and he has been traveling through stateside in promoting his film. While Banksy made his way through New York City, he didn’t forget to leave a few traces and tags of thought for the city, which had since then sparked quite a graffiti war, once again proving the volatile and ephemeral nature of the world of graffiti. Pieces showed up last night around downtown New York City, in Chinatown, SoHo, Financial District and across the bridge in DUMBO. The Chinatown piece has been verified this morning, and since then, folks armed with Sharpies and spray paint have decided to add their own two pence and brushstrokes to these pieces.






For those in the city, don’t wait to visit them before they become unrecognizable, or like Banksy’s LA piece, gets removed as a whole wall slab. via: The Gothamist

FM Belfast - Underwear

FM Belfast are a Reykjavik-based dance trio who throw around the word “fun” a lot when describing their shows. Part of it, they admit, is their limited vocabulary, but mostly “fun” is just the goal: They gave away packs of gum and drawings at the SXSW appearances, they’ve closed shows with “The Power” by Snap! and covered “Killing In The Name.” This video has lots of fun dancing but also strikes an eerie note, since it focuses on the ideas that a) lots of people dance alone b) in their underwear and c) not many people look beautiful dancing, especially once they’re slowed down, sped up, or frozen. The result, however, is quite beautiful: Intimate, lonely, and still fun. The video was directed by DANIELS (Daniel Scheinert and Dan Kwan).

Born October 19, 1988 to an absent father and a drug-addicted mother, Santiago Leyva grew up quickly. At age 12 he was living in a group home, but he was also writing his first rhymes, and by 15 he had released his first mixtape. Taken in by his uncle in Fresno, CA, the young MC soon caught the ear of Planet Asia, who was impressed by his rhymes and invited Leyva, who was by then going by the MC name Fashawn, to tour with him. Fashawn jumped on the opportunity, dropping out of high school to join the veteran rapper on the road. A prolific writer inspired by the likes of Tupac, N.W.A.,Dilated Peoples, and Public Enemy, Fashawn begin putting out a series of mixtapes, including 2006's Grizzly City and 2008's The Phenom 2 and One Shot, One Kill, the Orisue-sponsored record hosted by Mick Boogie and Terry Urban. The two DJs hit up Fashawn for a verse on their Unbelievable: The Notorious Edition mixtape, as well, and the young MC's The Antidote mixtape the following year, with beats by Alchemist, hit blogs. The hard work began to pay off, and Fashawn began to get recognition on hip-hop sites and magazines, including XXL, who gave a high rating to his full-length debut, Boy Meets World. Produced entirely by Exile, whom he had been introduced to through Planet Asia, Boy Meets World was released in October 2009 on One Records.

As a musician, life is often lived on the road. Each city leaves its imprint on the artist as they develop their craft. Touring, recording, and keeping up with friends and family took Oddisee beyond his hometown of Washington DC to Australia, Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America. From cities like East Africa's Khartoum in Sudan, to cosmopolitan jaunts like Paris & Tokyo. The influence of these travels can be heard on every one of the 24 tracks included on "Traveling Man".
Each track was produced while Oddisee stayed in the city it was titled after. The result is a 24 city sonic tour of the world. Oddisee sees the world, so that you can hear it.

Maybe is a single from N*E*R*D's album Fly or Die and was only released in the UK, where it reached #24. It has since been released in America after 2004. The song was featured in an iPod commercial which also promoted the song. The song features Lenny Kravitz on guitar.
The song was also a sample for Lupe Fiasco's song "...And He Gets the Girl," a nonalbum track that was released with the single "I Gotcha" from Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor.
